"I consider it the highest privilege to be trusted with the care of your child. As a father of two children who both had anesthesia for dental procedures, I can relate to your anxiety and concerns. However, anesthesia is extremely safe, and I will honor your trust by taking care of your child as if they were my own."

The M.D. Difference in Dental Anesthesia

Hello! My name is Steve Yun and I am a board-certified M.D. and Dental Anesthesiologist in Southern California. Thank you for visiting my site.

Why choose me to perform your dental anesthesia? There are 3 key advantages:

1. As a M.D. anesthesiologist, my mission is to bring the safe, smooth anesthesia to the dental office. I maintain active privileges at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center, which was recently chosen the best hospital in Orange County. I also perform complex anesthesia cases at Rady's Children's Hospital in San Diego. With my extensive experience doing difficult hospital cases, you can be confident that I have the skills to handle any situation in the dental office.

2. As a board-certified M.D. anesthesiologist, I am an expert with over 20 years of experience in making sure my patients can breathe safely. I am certified in advanced life support for adults and children. I am also a safety inspector for surgery centers and an Examiner for the Dental Board of California. I lecture extensively around the country offering my expertise in patient safety.

3.  I am an expert in caring for younger children.  The vast majority of my patients in dental offices are children. I received special training & experiences at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles & Children's Hospital of Orange County. Currently, I am a member of Rady's Children's Hospital in San Diego, the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry.

My approach towards children is to be as gentle as possible. I will first build rapport with your child by playing with them and telling them about our "breathing" game.  Then you can bring your child back to the dental chair where s/he will fall asleep. I will stay with them every moment until they are awake. For children with severe anxiety or who are unable to cooperate, I can offer "needle-free anesthesia" and other special techniques to keep them safe and comfortable. I bring the same type of equipment and medicines I use in the hospital O.R, including modern, fast-acting medications that are rapidly metabolized. Children do extremely well after their anesthesia experience, and with my techniques, nausea and heavy grogginess are rare.
